DSMGCL, Range and Safety Rules
GCL runs a cold range; all gun handling is to be done at a designated safe area. The competitor is responsible for and expected to abide by all safety rules from the time that they arrive at GCL, until the time they leave GCL. All shooters will uncase and holster handguns in a safe area. Long guns will be transported to each range, cased. While at the range, long guns will be uncased and placed in provided gun racks, actions open and muzzle down. No ammunition handling in the safe area. One RO/SO will be appointed per squad. His word is FINAL in any and all safety issues. While on any of the GCL ranges, guns will be handled, only by the direction of the RO/SO. While on the firing line, when loading, unloading or showing clear, guns will be handled so the muzzles are pointed level and down range. While shooting, the muzzle of the gun must always be pointed at the backstop. While moving and reloading, the muzzle of the gun must remain pointed down range. Except when actually aiming or shooting at targets, all movement, reloads or gun clearing will be done with the fingers visibly outside of the trigger guard. One warning will be given, if the shooter does not comply, he will be disqualified (DQ’d). Unsafe gun handling, such as breaking the 180, sweeping yourself while holstering or moving will result in a match DQ. Any AD (accidental discharge) is an automatic match DQ. Safety glasses and hearing protection is required on all GCL ranges. If anyone sees a shooter not wearing safety glasses or hearing protection the RO or shooter should be notified immediately. Don’t go down range until you hear RO/SO say range is clear. If you are down range and hear the RO/SO yell, “Range is going hot”, yell back and let him know you are down range as this is the last command before the shooter is told to load. Guns cannot be worn or carried in such a manner as to be visibly displayed in the parking lot or clubhouse. Scores and match information will be posted on the DSM website.
