Concealed Carry

This month I want to share some tips about carrying concealed.  First and foremost is to make sure your equipment is concealed.  The type of “holster” you are using will dictate the method you use.  I don’t have enough space to cover all the options so I will concentrate on my personal choice.  I use a kydex in the pants holster because I find it to be quick to draw from and easy to carry, whether I’m wearing pants or shorts.

Now, how do I conceal a full size 1911?  Because more than half of the firearm is in my pants, I wear a vest (yes, the one I wear for DSM matches) or an unbuttoned shirt.  Because the shirt or vest is loose, I don’t have to worry about “printing” and it easily covers the grip of my Springfield.

A trick I learned many years ago is to put a little weight (wallet) in the gun side vest pocket to assist in flipping it open if the need to draw arises.  If you don’t have pockets, sew some buckshot into the gun side hem of the garment.  Don’t over do it or your shirt will be sagging on that side.

A couple of last tips - I put the soft half of Velcro on the side of the holster that rides on my hip.  It makes the holster softer and prevents it from sliding around.  Lastly, don’t forget to Pledge the inside of your Kydex holster for a faster and smoother draw.
