Warning!!! Don’t buy from Vaquero gun leather!!!

If you are thinking of buying from Vaquero gun leather in Lockhart Texas I want you to know about the bad experience I had trying to order a belt that will fit me. Originally ordered a belt and holster from them last spring for $165.

Everything was discussed before ordering, main thing is waist size 38 inches. 10 weeks later I get a holster that is OK but nothing special and a belt that at its smallest size was 41 inches. Sent the belt back, waited and waited, called three times, got excuse after excuse, nine weeks later I get a belt that measures 40.5 inches to the center hole, 37.5 inches to the last hole.

This time I specifically asked for a belt 39 inches to the center hole. E-mailed the owner and he (Leonard Lay) tells me I am being too picky, he never gets complaints and has a no return/refund policy. So when you order custom leather do you get what you want, or take what the maker gives you.

I have e-mailed and talked to the owner several times. Waist size was given on the original order for the rig (38 inches). After he made the first belt to big (6 inches to big) I talked to him on the phone again and e-mailed again, this time specifying a belt that would measure 39 inches to the center hole.

So now we had an exact size to work with. He sent me a belt measuring 40 5/8 inches to the center hole. I don't expect a measurement of plus or minus a .005 but think it should be within a 1/4 inch of what was asked for not 1 5/8 inches bigger than asked for! Here are his E-mail replies.

I sent you pictures with measuring tape laid next to the belt, the belt measures 40 and 5/8's inches to the center hole not 39 inches. So you did not make me what I asked for

This is what I sent you after the mistake was made making the first belt!

Looking over different companies that offer custom belt work, Some say add 4 inches to waist size when ordering and some say size to middle hole. I measured my old gun belt (should have in the first place) The belt measures 39 inches to the hole I use.

I would prefer that in remaking the belt you use 7 holes instead of 8 and the belt measured to that center hole is 39 inches. That makes a belt that fits a waist from 36 to 42 inches, also is 38 plus 4 = 42 (to the longest hole).

Also reduce the number of 44 spcl cartridge loops from 30 to 24 (that should save you some work)

I will ship the other belt out Tues morning.

THAT IS WHAT I WROTE YOU 9 1/2 WEEKS AGO!!!

Now "9" weeks after returning the belt that was made too big you send me a belt that is still too big. the belt you sent me measures 40 an 5/8 inches to the center hole. The cartridge loops are fit to 45 colt instead of 44 special (tried both and the 44 special are a loose fit). The leather loop to retain the tucked in part of the belt is an inch too big and does not match the color of the belt. See attached pictures.

BTW: I spent another $5.50 sending the belt back to you to be re-made

BTW: Still don't have what I asked for.

BTW: The cartridge loops are not center to the back of the belt, are biased to the left of the belt! I am left-handed!

One other thing, when you build a holster for an open top you need to flair the top so the barrel wedge will clear the top of the holster!
